Fraser River Bighorns: Disease Assessment and Connectivity
WSSBC's Legacy Project. We are testing, and removing Mycoplasma Ovipneumoniae from the landscape. There are approximately 17 different bands of sheep between Lillooet and Williams Lake, including some migratory bands of wild sheep. The goals of this project are to collect baseline herd health data to understand the prevalence of Movi in Fraser River bighorn sheep herds, assess connectivity and the subsequent risk of Movi transmission among herds through the movements of GPS collared animals, and define seasonal ranges and migration corridors.

Reimaging the ties that bind- Waste Wool
The main objective is to understand the risk that domestic sheep present to wild sheep in the Columbia Basin area. Secondarily identifying domestic sheep producers in the area to inform them of the risk from M.ovi, to their sheep and to the bighorn population. Third, to enlist the help of sheep producers in identifying their flocks M.ovi status.

Northern Prescribed Burns
Development of burn prescriptions, and conducting pre-treatment effectiveness monitoring for sheep habitat. This project included aerial sheep surveys, as well on the ground monitoring, and soil sampling/testing. In 2022, we were successful with executing a number of prescribed burns in northeastern BC, and 2023 looks like a promising year for prescribed burning.

Gataga River Garbage Clean-up
Rehabilitating this incredibly sensitive landscape, by removing environmental waste that has been fleft behind by an old prospecting operation. The amount of garbage that is left there is astonishing with over 100 fuel drums that required to be removed.
